In this Key Lab Video, you can take a tour of a modern and efficient wastewater treatment facility in a Canadian community. In this case, it is the Saanich Wastewater Treatment Facility (SWTF).

Please keep in mind that not all waste water treatment facilities are the same. For example, the SWTF conducts primary and secondary treatment of waste water, and then returns the treated water to the ocean. Many communities and locations require that waste water undergo tertiary treatment before the treated water is released into the environment. In activity C44, you'll have the opportunity to research and learn about how waste water is treated in your community.
